IHCA Certification is committed to working closely with Health Service Organisations in planning their audit and achieving accreditation.

The accreditation program operates over a three-year cycle with no mid-cycle assessment required.  Health service organisations may elect to undertake a short notice assessment program, requiring unnannounced assessments on an annual basis.

Accreditation Assessment

The audit team will consist of qualified auditors with relevant clinical, health service and auditing experience who will review your policies, procedures and records and conduct interviews with board, management, workers and consumers. The auditors will spend around 60% of their time (as appropriate) observing your operations. At the conclusion of the on-site audit the findings will be presented to your organisation’s management and other interested parties in relation to conformity with the Standard’s requirements.

Follow up actions

The Lead Auditor will explain what follow-up action is required to resolve any actions that are found to be not met during the assessment. You will have 60 days to resolve these.

Formal accreditation decision and registration

IHCA Certification will provide a written report to your organisation and issue a Certificate of Registration against the Standard if there are no outstanding actions that are not met. Upon accreditation, your organisation will be issued with a certificate confirming your organisation’s conformance to the standards and the right to use IHCA Certification’s distinctive symbol in promotional activities. Information about your assessment is provided to the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care (the Commission).

IHCA Certification will also add your organisation’s name to the Joint Accreditation System of Australia and New Zealand (JAS-ANZ) register of certified organisations, which is publicly accessible on the JAS-ANZ website: www.jas-anz.com.au.

Annual Attestation Statement

Your governing body will be required to complete an annual attestation statement (self-reporting on past performance) to IHCA Certification, we will then forward this on to the Commission.

Other Standards

NSQHS assessment is not be conducted at the same time as assessment to another standard e.g. ISO 9001:2015. Other assessments may be conducted immediately following your NSQHS assessment.
